FairyDust Faces Bios

karen

Karen Baker: Founding Artist
Karen first started drawing as a child. Her favorite subjects were birds. All kinds of birds; birds in flight, birds eating worms, birds with huge plumage. At 10 she began copying, line for line the works of Michelangelo and da Vinci. It wasn't until after years of oil and acrylic painting, followed by charcoal figure drawing and award winning work in cake decorating that Karen brought her skills to face painting.

Currently Karen, mother of 5, leads a girl scout troop, coordinates a public school's art docent program and teaches art and creativity classes through the Rohnert Park Rec Dept. This summer you can find her teaching henna to teens through the Sonoma County Library System, working at the Cotati Farmer's Market as well as doing live painting demonstrations at Santa Rosa's First Friday Art Walks.

clementine

Clementine Lee: Senior Artist
Clementine, and her 'can do' attitude comes to FairyDust Faces with years of art experience. One of Clementine's defining characteristics is her ability to meet a face painting challenge head on and produce a trully remarkable design. As a former Art Quest student Clementine has always had a strong interest in makeup, drama and hair.

Currently, as a professional childcare worker and mother of 2, Clementine always has her hands in one art project or another including painting realistic sea life murals at her preschool, sewing theater costumes, making jewelry, or working as a freelance hair stylist. When not spending time with her daughters, Clementine holds down the second chair at all FairyDust Faces public events

FAQ

What Kind of Events do you do?

We do it all! Almost anyplace there will kids or adults who want to do something fun and different! Private Parties, Birthday Parties, Picnics, Reunions, Holiday Parties, Grand Openings, Weddings, Baby Showers, Bridal Showers, Graduation / End of School Year Parties, Sporting Events, Community Outreaches, Church Functions, Scouting Events, Corporate Events, Fairs, Festivals, Car Shows and Fundraisers.

Do you just paint/tatoo/henna the children, or do you paint the adults too?

We paint the young and young at heart -- everyone loves face painting and body art! Make sure you include everyone who will want to be painted in your estimated number of guests.

My party is all boys, what do you suggest?

Boys love face painting just as much as girls! Our most popular boy designs are fire, spider guy, skulls, tigers, monster masks and arm dragons. Boys also really resonate with airbrush tattoos!

My party is all girls, what about them?

Girls love it all! They can choose thier own face paint design and do glitter tattoos. Our most popular girl designs are butterflies, pretty kitties, fairy eyes, princess crowns and flowers.

OK, how about teens then?

We should talk to you about airbrush tattoos or henna. Teens love these services easpecially for their bar/bat mitzvahs or grad nights. Henna is an individualistic art form and good for smaller groups and those who can take care not to smear their design while it dries. Airbrush tattoos on the other hand are fabulous for large crowds and fast moving kids!

Do you come as a clown or other character?

We do not perform as clowns, but can recommnd some good ones! We do however paint our own faces to fit your theme as well as have the ability to come dressed as: Fairies, 80's Rocker Girls, Christmas Elves, Princess, Pirate or even a 1950's House Wife

What kind of paint do you use?

We use only the best! All of our 'paint' is actually theater grade, water-based makeup and cosmetic glitter -- made especially for use on the skin. Our airbrush ink is professional grade temporary ink and our henna is 100% pure Jamilla with no chemical adatives

Can I get a full face' design?

Absolutely -- we love doing whole faces! In fact we love full face designs so much thats what we specialize in.

How far in advance do I need to book you?

If we're available we'll help you! However we do book our festival calendar, grad nights and coporate picnics early in the year. So, if you know your date, give us a call -- we want to make sure someone else doesnt get your date!

Can I book you for a Sunday or on holidays?

The only days we take off are Thanksgiving Day and Christmas...we love our families!
